The First Images from the Euclid Telescope: Stunning Views of the Cosmic Structures

In this episode, we will show you some of the first images from the Euclid telescope, a space observatory launched by the European Space Agency (ESA) in July 2023. The Euclid telescope aims to map the dark matter and dark energy that make up most of the universe, and to answer some of the fundamental questions about the origin, evolution, and fate of the universe. We will focus on three images: the Horsehead Nebula, a dark cloud of gas and dust that is a nursery of stars and planets; the Hidden Galaxy, a spiral galaxy that is partially obscured by a foreground galaxy that acts as a gravitational lens; and the Perseus Cluster, a massive cluster of galaxies that is one of the brightest sources of X-rays in the sky. These images demonstrate the power and potential of the Euclid telescope to capture the beauty and complexity of the cosmos, and to reveal the secrets of the invisible forces that shape our universe.
