In a significant development, Hamas is set to release three Israeli hostages on Saturday in the Gaza Strip as part of a prisoner exchange agreement with Israel. The individuals named for release are male civilians: Eli Sharabi, Ohad Ben Ami, and Or Levy.
This exchange is part of an ongoing ceasefire that began on January 19, 2025. Since the ceasefire’s inception, 18 hostages have been freed, with Israel reciprocating by releasing 383 Palestinian prisoners. Hamas has announced plans to release an additional 183 prisoners on Saturday.
By the end of the first stage of the ceasefire, scheduled to conclude in three weeks, a total of 33 hostages and 1,900 prisoners are expected to be released. However, Israeli authorities have reported that eight of these hostages are deceased. The upcoming prisoner release by Israel includes over 70 individuals serving life or long sentences, as well as Gazans detained during the recent conflict.
