Unveiling Ateisiu, Mergužėle, Ateisiu - 1969 Lithuanian Rock Anthem by Eglutės

Now this is probably one of the very first Western sounding Big Beat songs recorded in the Soviet Union. It comes as a no surprise provided the song was recorded in Lithuania – one of the three USSR’s Western “socialism storefronts”, along with two other Baltic states, Latvia and Estonia, that were annexed by the Soviet Union in 1939, due to the Molotov – Ribbentrop pact. Girl band “Eglutės”, founded in 1968 in Kaunas, has recorded this traditional folk song – “Ateisiu, Mergužėle, Ateisiu” (“I’ll Come Girl, I’ll Come” in Lithuanian) in 1968, at one of the state radio recording studios either in Vilnius or in Riga. The song features vocals by Rasa Matukonytė and guest star, Vytautas Petrušonis. The footage consists of excerpts from the movie called “Birželis, vasaros pradžia“, released by Lietuvos Kino Studija in 1969. In fact, “Ateisiu, Mergužėle, Ateisiu” was included into the movie’s soundtrack and Petrušonis was invited to film in this school senior prom scene, so it is one of his rare media appearances in late 1960s – early 1970s that has been preserved. #bigbeat #easterneurope #lietuviskamuzika #sovietmusic #lithuania #lithuanianlanguage #lithuanianmovies #lietuva #lietuvoskinostudija #eglutes #VytautasPetrušonis #RasaMatukonytė #JuozasBudraitis #юозасбудрайтис #советскаялитва #литовскаякиностудия #бигбит #sovietrock #lithuanianrock #Birželisvasarospradžia #psychedelic #psychedelicrock #beat #sovietgrooves #groovy #oldmusic #retro #easterneuropean #easterneurope
