MC5 - Kick Out The Jams - 2nd version (1972)

Along with Iggy & The Stooges the Michigan based MC5 (= Motor City 5; Motor City = Detroit) was one of the first bands who started a prototype of what would later be called punk rock today also known as protopunk. Founded by the two friends and guitarists Wayne Kramer and Fred “Sonic“ Smith, the band is best known for the controversial song “Kick Out The Jams“ from their debut album. The whole album was recorded live with audience on December 31st at the Grande Ballroom in Detroit a novelty for a debut album, but MC5s label, Elektra Records, recognized that the band were at their best when playing live. And soon went into some trouble with the title track: Vocalist Rob Tyner started the song with the words “All right now, its time to Kick out the jams, motherfuckers!“ before the opening riffs.
