Bees (1953)

Bee insemination - to breed new superior British bee. Fishbourne, West Sussex. Various shots of bee keeper Harry Thompson at his hives. C/U of his face, he brings cell over to table and picks off grub then puts it in artificial queen cell cup. He puts this in hive. M/S as he takes it out when ready and puts bee in cage to be protected. C/U queen bee in cage. M/S as she is put in tube after being given carbon dioxide and pushed under microscope. A drone which has been given chloroform is selected and the insemination operation takes place under the microscope. The bee is put in cage again then into a queen-less hive.
