Nicolas Gombert, a lesser-known French composer of the early 16th century, crafted choral masterpieces that are intricate tapestries of polyphony (the music from which we draw our name). The poetry in this piece focuses on the struggles of being apart from one’s love, but ends stating that the reunion after separation will bring “such vigor!” 🔥
