Revolver Galand M 1868. Револьвер Galand M 1868

In 1868, the famous French gunsmith Charles Francois Galand, together with his English partner A. Sommerville, received a patent for the original mechanism they developed for extracting spent cartridges from a revolver. Galand M 1870 Caliber, mm Length, mm 254 Barrel length, mm 127 Weight without cartridges, kg Drum, number of cartridges 6 Muzzle velocity of the bullet, m/s 183 In this design, the extraction of cartridges was carried out using a lever reinforced under the barrel and frame of the revolver, which was part of the safety bracket. When lowering this lever down, the barrel and the drum moved forward inside the frame. Almost immediately after the start of movement, the star extractor, located in the rear end of the drum, stopped, while the drum itself continued to move forward, and the spent cartridges, being extracted from the chambers of the drum by the extractor, simply fell out. New cartridges were inserted into the drum with the extractor extended, and since the cartridge with the bullet was longer than the empty cartridge case, they freely reached the chambers. The cartridges were fully inserted into the drum when its rear end was pressed against the shield of the revolver frame, that is, when returning to the original position. #Revolver #Revolver_Galand #Револьвер
