Ķemeru nacionālais parks~Eagles are singing! A GSW visit the nest tree~8:19 am 2024/02/12

GSW =Greater spotted woodpecker BTW: the preparations in the nest are now in full swing. It won’t be long before we can see the first egg. It should be around March 8th - 12th. White Tailed Eagles nest in Latvia! 📌 One of the five nests of sea eagles in the Ķemeri National Park can be watched live. This nesting area has been known since 2019, when the eagles initially occupied an artificial nest built for an osprey in a pine tree, which had already dried up at that time. Two years later, the new nest of this pair of eagles was found, it is located in a fir tree, in the place of a top cover broken off by snow or wind - in a similar situation as the nest we have been observing for a long time in Durbe, only lower, less than 20 meters above the ground. There is reason to believe that this nest was built already in 2020, when the initially occupied artificial nest in the dry pine was uninhabited. Since 2021, eagles have successfully nested in this nest every year, raising one young twice and two once. At the end of 2023, the nest is already being prepared for the next nesting season, it is decorated with conifer branches. The two adult birds that can be seen in the nest at this time are unringed, so the origin and exact age of these eaglets is unknown to us. The online system at the nest was created in December 2023 with the participation of Jānis Ķuz, Jānis Rudzītis, Jānis Kvies, Jānis Kažotnieks and Aleksej Šaripinas.
