Sakurajima volcano spews columns of ash and smoke

The Sakurajima volcano in Kagoshima Prefecture erupted on Wednesday, sending plumes of ash soaring up to 5,000 metres, the highest recorded since 2020. Local authorities have maintained a level three alert, advising people to keep a safe distance from the volcano.
