Many folk songs of the Andes speak to the natural beauty of the South American landscape. The “san juanito“ from Ecuador is played during the celebration of San Juan. Originally sung in the “Quichua“ language, the song pays homage to Iluman Tio, one of many mountains found in the Ecuadorian Andes. Markahuasi presents this instrumental version using kena harmonies and the bandolin, a fifteen string instrument similar to the mandolin.
