Blinken: Middle East leaders determined to prevent spread of conflict

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Monday (January 8) said he found leaders in the Middle East determined to prevent the conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza from spreading. Blinken, in the region for a week of shuttle diplomacy, told reporters in Saudi Arabia that all of those he spoke to realized the extent of the challenges, adding “no one thinks that anything will happen overnight.“ Blinken also said Houthi attacks on international shipping in the Red Sea have to stop, adding countries have made clear that there have to be consequences if the attacks continue.
