Mazurka in C minor | GLINKA | Luke Faulkner

This charming, though brief, mazurka is the earliest work in my upcoming Forgotten Melodies album. The album sets out to explore Rachmaninoff’s contemporaries and influences (Rachmaninoff was given 5 Glinka Awards in his lifetime, including one for his famous 2nd Piano Concerto). A mazurka is a lively Polish folk dance. This performance isn’t particularly lively, but there was no-one dancing around the abandoned chapel so I took some liberties. About the Rachmaninoff 150th Project: For as long as I can remember, Rachmaninoff has been my favourite composer. The next major anniversary will be his 200th in 2073, at which point I’ll be in my 80s, so I wanted to do something special this year. With Rach being a humble guy, I decided to focus on his lesser-known contemporaries and influences; he was always championing the music of others, so I this felt a suitable tribute. This is an entirely self-produced project (not commissioned/no grant etc.) and is just something I wanted to do. I hope you enjoy the music :) Filmed and edited by me.
