The world population is expected to pass 8 billion before the end of the year.
This graphic shows how this is spread around the globe.
More than half of the population lives in Asia, with Africa being the second most populated continent.
A lot of countries in Eastern and Southern Europe are actually expected to see their populations decline over the next few decades.
This year, Ukraine will lose over 7 million people.
1 out of every 3 people lives in China and India.
If you were to remove a billion residents from each of these, they would still be the two most populated countries.
The USA is in third position with 337 million, accounting for most of North America’s inhabitants.
Brazil has by far the highest population in South America, putting it in 7th place overall, just behind Nigeria.
The fastest growing continent is Africa, with sub-Saharan Africa expected to almost double in size by 2050.
