Open Acromioplasty (Subacromial Decompression)

Subacromial decompression/ Acromioplasty is an extremely common operation performed for rotator cuff impingement. This helps in pain relief as well as future rotator cuff tear due to persistant shoulder impingement. Open acromioplasty is less commonly performed as most surgeons now do arthroscopic subacromial decompression. This video demonstrates open subacromial decompression which can be performed even in rural setting with limited health care facilities. Every orthopaedic surgeon must know and be able to do this surgery which is excellent in relieving shoulder pain.
