VOA’s Myroslava Gongadze Interviews Ukraine’s Minister of Energy | VOANews
▶ Another blackout was reported at the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine on May 22, 2023. Ukraine’s Energy minister spoke to VOA’s Myroslava Gondadze about the potential dangers of continued power outages.
Ukrainian state nuclear energy company Energoatom said Russian shelling overnight caused the last high-voltage power transmission line, which supplied the nuclear plant, to be disconnected. The outage was also confirmed by Russia’s “Rosatom“, which manages the Russian-occupied station.
The radiation level remains normal.
This is the seventh time Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant has experienced a blackout since Russia occupied the station on March 4th, 2022.
👉 Ukrainian officials said Monday that Russian forces used missiles and drones to carry out overnight attacks on the Dnipropetrovsk region, leaving buildings damaged and at least eight people injured.
Governor Serhiy Lysak, in a post on Telegram, said the damage included residential buildings and vehicles.
Ukraine’s air force, also on the Telegram messaging app, posted that the Russian attack involved 16 missiles and 20 Shahed drones, and that Ukrainian air defenses shot down four cruise missiles and 20 drones.
Russia has intensified its aerial assault on Ukraine in recent weeks as Ukraine plans a counteroffensive aimed at reclaiming territory from Russian forces. #ukraine #russia #voanews
