Coors Beer was on Display During Worship at the 2024 Allegheny West Conference Camp Meeting

In many places, the church’s standards have disappeared. The lowering of standards regarding dress, jewelry, and music—including allowing apparel that promotes beer during our camp meetings—is deeply troubling and in contradiction with Seventh-day Adventism. On Sabbath, June 15, 2024, during a worship service at the 2024 Allegheny West Conference Camp Meeting, the band featured a drummer who was proudly wearing a Coors Beer Brewing Company hat as the people were singing songs to God. [1] Advertising alcoholic beverages on stage, front and center, during our camp meetings does not foster a welcoming environment where everyone feels valued. Allowing this type of display does not make us more inclusive and non-judgmental. No. Product-promoting clothing serves as a mobile billboard, allowing Coors Beer to reach new customers. And the 2024 Allegheny West Conference camp meeting turned into a forum for promoting the alcohol industry’s brand visibility by raising awareness of its marketing—pure and simple.
