Jan Hoffmann - 1979 Worlds LP HQ

Jan seems to be more famous for some of his judging exploits than his skating. While not in the class of Curry, Cranston and Cousins in terms of artistry and presentation, it’s often forgotten that Jan was probably the most consistent skater of the 1970’s. He was excellent at figures, rarely made huge mistakes in free skating and became the second man ever to land a triple lutz in major international championship (1974 Europeans). He also competed for over a decade at the top level, first appearing in 1968 at the Olympics as a 12 year old. Known for his tremendous jumping spring, it’s a shame he’s largely forgotten today.
