This is Viktoria Nizhnik’s arrangement of the Karelian lullaby “Tuuti“ masterfully performed by Viktoria Nizhnik (electric kantele, singing) and Jenifer Thyssen’s (improvisation vocals).
This lullaby historically was recorded in Karelia by A. O. Väisänen from Iivana Lösönen in 1916.
The only words of the lullaby are : “Tuuti, tuuti, tutine tuuti, l’uuli, l’uuli, l’uline l’uuli, lasta piendä pikkaraista, lasta piendä pikkaraista.“
We added additional poetry by Ingrian poetess Larin Paraske (1833-1904) -- “A Cloud Roamed in Sky“, translated from Finnish to Russian by Yu. Mogutin.
This record was made 4 December 2021, in St. Louis King of France Catholic Church in Austin (Texas).
Viktoria Nizhnik — arrangement, electric kantele (Lovikka), vocal
Jenifer Thyssen — idea for additional improvisation vocal
Yakov Nizhnik — idea for adding Paraske’s text and translation subtitles into English
