Cherize’s Birthday Party - South Central LA - 22nd and Griffith Ave. - 1989

Video taken Oct. 29, 1989, to celebrate Cherize’s birthday party on 22nd and Griffith Ave. A GOOD TIME HAD BY ALL! No need for an elaborate shindig. With the simple set up of a dilapidated folding table and metal chairs behind the neighbor’s house and in front of her back-lot apartment, the guest bought a half-gallon of Hennessy and a few 40oz bottles Old English beer along with some Styrofoam cups, invite a few close friends in the neighborhood, along with their families, had the party videotaped and now have fond memories that will last for a lifetime. FOUR THINGS THE VIDEOGRAPHER REMEMBERS ABOUT THIS PARTY! 1. Of course the obvious, it was Cherize’s birthday! 2. Trina (the young lady in the black jacket at the party) who lived around the corner on 23rd looked exactly like Rozonda “Chilli“ Thomas of the group TLC. 3. 85-year-old Winnie “Ma“ Holmes comes from across the street to not only attend the party but to actually dance to several tunes. 4. Lisa Knox, the young lady in the denim jacket with red band in her hair went missing shortly after this party. It was discovered years later that her identification card was found in the home of notorious serial killer Lonnie Franklin aka The Grim Sleeper.
