To be with people in comfort and recognition. The world feels vapour thin like a sea of ghosts. I reach out and cannot touch. I want to feel, hold, and join our network together in a fusion that saves and unifies me. I think of friends, usually at night. The ones that knew me at various times during decades of struggle. It creates an appealing thought. There’s stalker-like enthusiasm about connecting physically as we build bridges towards fresh reality. One that heals fragmented histories. I say names aloud as the house sleeps, a gentle whisper, usually though, it’s in my head. Richard, John, Jason, Joe, Jonathan, and Paul. Young men getting older. We’ve existed at the same time, this to me is no small thing. It means something. A brotherhood, perhaps. Even though on the surface, it’s not at all. We moved on, separated or fell out of love. Yet it’s a collection of people that were once more firmly connected. They’re central to my known world.
