Matvey Nikolaevsky: Valse-Boston

Nikolaevsky (1882-1942) was a pianist, composer, author of methodological works on piano pedagogy. In 1902 he graduated from the Moscow Conservatory in piano with N. E. Shishkin, where he studied composition with S. N. Vasilenko, A. A. Ilyinsky and M. M. Ippolitov-Ivanov. In 1904-1905 he took lessons in counterpoint from S. I. Taneyev. He performed as a pianist. From 1917 he was a teacher at the Bolshoi Theater School , from 1920 he was an accompanist at the Bolshoi Theatre. He began his creative and composing activity in 1901 with the publication of his musical, vocal and musical-pedagogical works, as well as compositions for the orchestra. He was a professor at the People’s Choir Academy. For 11 years he taught special piano at the technical school of the Bolshoi Theater . Public activity began in 1917. in 1918-1920 he carried out cultural and educational work in the Red Army units.
