061 Mitre plane, yup another

It’s time for another plane - mitre plane. Beech wood and an old laminated blade by Ferdinand RUBENS. At first i wanted to build another strike block plane (bevel down), but i changed my mind to set the blade bevel up - it is nice chance to show you difference beetwen that two kind of planes. Strike block plane have cutting angle below 40 deg - the same as the bed because the bevel is down. This is perfect plane for planing / strike endgrain. The blade in mitre planes is set bevel up on the bed (20-30 deg). The cutting angle is amount of the bed angle and the blade bevel. It can be easly changed by regrinding the blade bevel. At the end of the video i’ll show you how my mitre plane reduce tearout and why strike block plane is better for work with endgrain. The plane is equipped with a mouth closer - simple wedge in front of the blade. The sole will be worn out after some time and the mouth will be open. To close them again the mouth closer should be fitted a little bit deeper. That’s all. Brilliant solution wich was born few ages ago. I hope you still like my “old style“ of the videos :) Cheers!
