Nonlinear Material Testing for FSI Simulation

Collaboration leads to simulation success at Veryst Engineering. The COMSOL team visited the Veryst office to hear from Sean Teller and Nagi Elabbasi how test and simulation engineers can work together to produce reliable FSI simulations. Simulation is an important part of design optimization, as it allows you to look inside the product before building prototypes or moving into the manufacturing stage. To get accurate and reliable results, it’s crucial to set up the geometry, loads, and mesh correctly. It’s also important to accurately represent the material of the component you are modeling. That’s where material testing comes in. At Veryst, the test engineer runs tests and creates a material model for the simulation engineer to use in the simulations. In some cases, testing is straightforward, but when dealing with nonlinear materials (such as polymers), it’s more challenging. Similarly, fully coupled fluid-structure interaction problems are more complex than other types of problems and call
