Beaujoyeulx: Ballet comique de la reine, La petite entrée
The Ballet comique de la reine, composed and choreographed by Balthazar de Beaujoyeulx, was staged in Paris in 1581 and remains one of Catherine de Médicis most remembered court spectacles. A lavish and expensive production, it was part of the wedding celebration of her sister Margeurite de Lorraine to the Duc de Joyeuse. The story of the ballet is set on the enchanted island of Circe, the evil sorceress who is conquered by the king of France. This selection is the final movement of the work.
