“The Excavation of Ancient Chariots in Gujun “Broadcast time :
Zhongshan Kingdom, a small country governed by ethnic minorities, struggled to survive among the great powers during the Eastern Zhou Dynasty. A few years ago, Xingtang County, Hebei Province rebuilt the land and built fields, and many ancient relics were discovered. After hearing the news, experts from the Hebei Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics rushed to Gujun Village where the ancient relics were discovered. Then, a large-scale archaeological investigation The excavation kicked off. At the end of 2018 , the excavation of the No. 5 car among the five cars and horses that had been taken back to the laboratory from the Chemakeng earlier entered the critical stage.
Gold and bronze objects are gradually exposed between the wheel hubs. The diameter of the wheel is nearly 140 centimeters, and the area of the carriage is two square meters, which is really rare in previous archaeological excavations. The archaeologists decided to strengthen the two wheels leaning on the car body and take them off as a whole to find out the truth about the car body. There is a consensus in the archaeological community that the excavation of ancient vehicles that have long been turned into mud can best reflect the skill of archaeologists.
Authoritative experts from the Institute of Archaeology, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences were invited to conduct laboratory archaeological excavations on No. 5 car. After extracting the two wheels and cleaning them up a bit, the two rows of gold foil exposed on the car body are very weird, with the head of a tiger and the body like a “little yellow duck“, arranged horizontally, looking at each other from head to tail. In the middle of the “little yellow duck“ is Bi shaped gold ornaments. In the subsequent excavation, seven bronze spears were unearthed, and another one was buried in the carriage to be excavated. A bronze Ge was unearthed, indicating that this is a chariot, which is at the forefront of the convoy, and is a road car for the escort. In the following excavations, the archaeologists were shocked again—the painted guard panels of the carriages were covered with patterns of miraculous composition, which was unprecedented even for experienced archaeologists. Archaeologists also unearthed a set of chisels, axes, adzes, and cones in the carriage.
