1980 3D Tank FPS | Battlezone

’40 Years Ago’ is a series of videos of games that were released 40 years ago. Atari released ’Battlezone’ to arcades in November 1980. It was a very early example of a first-person shooter, controlled with two joysticks, you peeked through goggles and saw an fully 3D environment that you could navigate to seek and destroy enemy tanks, UFOs, and seeker missiles. The radar at the top of the screen is key, and you spend some amount of time keeping track of the enemy tank positions. The enemy tanks had an AI that would drive them around the map, rotate towards you, and fire. All in all, this game has immersion like no other of the era, and served as an inspiration for later vehicle-based action games. Note: the video quality is not great, the OBS encoding bitrate was a bit too low. 40 Years Ago - 1980: 40 Years Ago - 1979: #40yearsAgo #syltefar_arcade #syltefar
