YUGOSLAVIA: KOSOVO: PRISTINA: SNIPER SHOOTS SERB

(17 Jun 1999) Natural Sound A sniper firing from an apartment block in Pristina has shot and seriously wounded a man driving a car with Serbian licence plates. The identity of the man has not yet been confirmed. British paratroopers of the NATO peacekeeping force sealed off the area as the wounded man was carried to an ambulance and rushed to hospital. The incident occurred as thousands of Serbs from the southern town of Urosevac fled northwards past Pristina and out of Kosovo in the wake of the retreating Yugoslav army. The British army has already conceded that it will be impossible to disarm everyone in the city, which is awash with guns following 15 months of ethnic warfare.
