Louvre Aulos in the Roman Necropolis Alyscamps in Arles
Immortalized in Dante’s Inferno, Alyscamps, is one of the most famous historical burial grounds outside of Rome, and is a short walk from the centre of Arles in the southwestern corner of Provence.
What an inspiring place to play the ancient aulos, an instrument that might very well have been played right here for burials in those ancient times.
The replica of the Louvre aulos played here in this video, is from the greco roman period. The original instrument, was found in Egypt and is situated today in the Louvre Museum in Paris.
