The hero of the story, Recai Bey is a vulgar and uncivilized police chief with an aversion to women and intelectuals. As a result of his deep down rage hastened by his childhood and bad living conditions, he perceives everybody around him as a cockroach and plans to purify the society by destroying them all. However, he starts vanishing following his dismissal from office which deprives him of his means of realizing this mission.
