Since then I have lost a few of other people I was very close with.. two of them being my dear Maw Maw and the fabulous Leslie Jordan. Each loss was unbearably painful and grief triggers grief.. suddenly the heartbreak of each loss would come flooding back. But the beautiful thing about time is that these painful reminders of them evolve to these fleeting moments I’d want to hold onto because for a second they were there. I showed up to my writing session one day in 2023 feeling heavy with grief and loss and my cowriter, Jeremy Lutito, also the producer of this track, was dealing with his own grief. They had just lost their family cat.. and he was sharing with me the struggle of having to explain grief to his young children. Honestly, we wrote this song to cope with our grief that day and it was healing for me. When I see them in the little things.. the grief visits me and it is wonderful.. it’s good grief.. cause they were there with me for a moment and for that I’m thankful.
