☢️ This video shows the ionizing radiation that a person can absorb from various sources. The unit of absorbed dose is “sievert“ (Sv), and it measures the effect that a radiation dose has on the cells of the body. One sievert (all at once) will make you sick and many more will kill you, but we safely absorb small amounts of natural radiation every day. ☢️ The video simulates if a 1mSv were 1cm3 hitting a person. Note: The same amount of sieverts absorbed in a shorter time will generally cause more damage, but their long-term cumulative waste plays a big role in things like cancer risk.
