Herne Hill Velodrome with Domini Radway-Fatuga

London’s Herne Hill Velodrome was built in 1891, three years after the invention of the pneumatic bicycle tire. And it isn’t just significant to cycling history, it’s a part of history-history. The track was the site of a gun battery in the second world war, hosted the 1948 Olympics and has been ridden by champions across generations: Jacques Anquetil, Fausto Coppi, Tom Simpson and Bradley Wiggins. The name Domini Radway-Fatuga might not be as well-known as those others, but this 17-year-old track cyclist is just getting started. “You can get a gauge of how you are doing compared to all the amazing riders who’ve gone through the track,” Domini said. “You can see on their Strava from years ago how fast they were going.” Find out how Domini is learning from the track’s rich heritage and how she’s preparing to write the next chapter of its history.
