Plymptoons

This is another one of those “Lost Classics“, animated by Bill Plympton in 1990, back in the early days of MTV and the Spike & Mike Festival, but this one doesn’t even appear in his IMDB listing, for some reason. Maybe the problem was that this short film shared its name with Bill’s first VHS DVD compilation of animated shorts, also called “Plymptoons“. So some people forgot that this animated short came first. This short was also on that VHS collection, but now it somehow got lost in the shuffle. This was the first Plympton short to showcase a series of disconnected short gag ideas, some of which were first seen in his print cartoons made for magazines. “How to Kiss“ and “25 Ways to Quit Smoking“ also had many short gags, but they were all on the same themes. Bill later used this same format in the short films “Plympmania“ and “Sex & Violence“.
