Dolphin Echolocation

High frequency impulses are emitted from the melon, they then collide with objects and bounce back; the returned impulses are received by the lower jaw and translated by the brain. The information gained from echolocation includes the shape, distance, density, speed and conformation of the object amongst other things. It is also believed it may be possible for dolphins to emit rapid, short ultrasonic booms which may render fish stunned or even kill them.
