He proceeds to ride around the bounds of Selkirk Common, across rivers and over fields. A crowd of people watch the riders making their way around the course. He ends up in the market place where, after a procession of civic fathers and craftsmen, the bearer swings the flag over his head then presents it to the Lord Provost.
