Competition Dance Tips for West Coast Swing | 1st & 2nd Place

Competition Dance Tips if you’re travelling and competing in West Coast Swing Events. I recently competed at Simply Adelaide and had success in my competitions so in todays video, I want to share what worked and what didn’t plus how I’ll train for future events. My biggest tips:  Preparing and setting firm goals before you begin is essential.  Have both personal fitness goals dance goals.  Have at least one training partner of similar ability, and having someone else as an accountability buddy is also a great idea.  Limit your dance goals to 3 core skills only. • My broad category dance goals for Simply Adelaide were: o Add more Variation (non-vanilla) o Combined Teamwork Musicality or what I call Partnered Musicality o Adding Contrast to my own movement For example: Adding contrast for me included variations to my anchors and general footwork, and body rolls. Depending on the division you’re competing, and your current skill sets and capability, your goals will be different. Going forward, my play before my next competition is the same except I’ll be cutting my training camp down to 8 weeks – 12 weeks was simply too long to stay focused and because of the extra time, the temptation to work on too many things became a bit of an issue. 8 weeks is more than enough. If you have training before a competition, let me know in the comments what worked for you. Till next time, keep dancing. #dance #westcoastswing #competition #training I’m dancing with Amanda @xcessivedancer on Instagram. Follow me on Instagram Follow Amanda on Instagram Visit my website
