“The Red Flag“ or “Song of the Red Flag“ was written by Irish Communist, Jim Connell in 1889 as an anthem to be used by socialists the whole world over. It gained popularity among Marxists and Trade Unionists alike in Connell’s native Ireland, and later spread to Marxists in the United Kingdom, and later the liberal “Labour Party“, and as far away as the Russia where it was translated, given a new tune and used by the Bolsheviks, China where it became popular with early Chinese revolutionaries, and among the many socialist independence fighters in Korea, and anti-fascists and anti-capitalists in Japan.
