In 1906, the then-young musician Inayat Khan, got the opportunity to perform music to the ruler of Deccan, Nizam Mir Mahebub Ali Khan (reigned between 1869-1911). Nizam was touched by the purity of the musician’s skill and his devotion to art. Nizam brought Inayat an emerald ring, and also awarded him the title “New Tansen”. On Nizam’s anniversary, Inayat Khan composed a song to the melody of the raga Pahari Jhinjhoti, ’’Nizam’s Jubilee Song“ (“Shad Raho Sarkar“)
The recording was made in Calcutta in 1909 a year before the departure of Inayat Khan to the West. He said that the record does not convey the real state of music. Until 1994, records were considered lost until they were found in the EMI archives in London.
I processed this record: I removed the noise from it, added reverb and tanpura, but I’m not a professional, maybe someone wants to take part in the restoration and revival of these archival records. Knock on me in PM or in the comments.
