Air Greenland - Dash 8 200 - Reykjavík (KEF) to Nuuk (GOH) | TRIP REPORT
I flew from Iceland to Greenland on the world’s longest Dash 8-200 flight (3 hours, 15 minutes)
Air Greenland serves Keflavík International Airport from Nuuk, the capital of Greenland (pop. 19,694). The airline is owned by the Greenlandic Government, and it operates a fleet of 28 aircraft: one A330neo used for transatlantic and charter flights, 9 propeller aircraft primarily serving the domestic network, and 19 helicopters that serve the remote settlements within Greenland and its rugged coastline.
Although Air Greenland’s headquarters are in Nuuk, its main hub is located at Kangerlussuaq Airport. This small port city currently has the longest runway and the most reliable weather for the airline’s daily jet flight to Copenhagen. This will all change in a few years when Nuuk Airport expands its runway to 6,560ft and constructs a brand new terminal. Concerns about Nuuk’s unpredictable and often foggy weather are high, but Greenland wants to put Nuuk on the world map however it can.
