The fashion tycoon and his assistant became the first private Japanese citizens to visit space in the last 30 years. Their journey marked Russia’s return to space tourism after a decade-long pause that saw the rise of competition from the United States. Maezawa’s space flight is also a practice run for his planned trip around the moon with Elon Musk’s SpaceX in 2023.
