Duo-Peds (1964)

Butlin’s Holiday Camp, Minehead, Somerset. Brilliant new invention - the Duoped (or Duo-Ped). This is a contraption which you stand on that has wheels. You propel yourself along by pedalling - it looks difficult. Narrator suggests that roller-skates are old fashioned now the Duoped is here. There is a great guy wearing sunglasses who is quite good at it - a beatnik? Various holidaymakers at Butlin’s have a go - some with better results than others. Narrator says there is a new dance “The Twist and Ped.“ Two glamorous girls in massive skirts hang on to a man as they stagger around on their Duoped. One of the duoped drivers crashes into the side of the swimming pool and falls in. Another man pedals past chalets with a newspaper in his hand. Funny stuff. Note: for search purposes - Butlins. Although narrator states that this is Minehead, according to the paperwork it is Clacton, Essex. There is a rubber lifesaver ring beside the pool which says “Clacton“ so assume it is the Essex camp.
