Budgies love to bathe. Some like to paddle and splash in shallow water and some like to hover under a light shower. When in water, a budgie will fluff up its feathers while is vibrates its wings. It does this to get the feathers wet and and to get water near to its skin. In still water, it will usually walk about, standing up and sitting down intermittently. A budgie should be given the chance to take a bath at least once a week, more often if possible. Some pet owners, provide their birds with access to water all the time, allowing them to decide when they wish to bathe. This is the ideal situation but in some cases may not be practical. Bathing provides a budgie with lots of fun and make their lives more interesting. However, while bathing is fun for budgies, it also has important health benefits helping it to maintain its feathers in good condition.
