Horror Film Experts Take on Slashers, the “Final Girl,“ and Representation | HOW TO SEE
Inspired by MoMA’s summer-long film series “Horror: Messaging the Monstrous,“ we spoke with scholars Ashlee Blackwell, Kali Simmons, and series co-organizer Caryn Coleman about their formative horror movie moments, moving beyond the slasher film, the “final girl,” and the genre’s long-overdue journey toward inclusion both on screen and behind the camera.
Caryn Coleman is a film curator and found of The Future of Film is Female. Kali Simmons is an assistant professor of Indigenous Nations Studies at Portland State University. Ashlee Blackwell is a writer and producer, known for Horror Noire: A History of Black Horror (2019).
CW: This video includes violence, blood, and scenes of assault.
