San Agustin Archaeological Park Fuente de Lavapatas

The Fuente de Lavapatas is a ceremonial site. This is a set of carved rocks on the bed of the creek that bears the same name. The channels that carry water up to three ponds are silhouettes of snakes and lizards. It is estimated that this fountain may have been related to cults that worshiped water. From UNESCO: The largest group of religious monuments and megalithic sculptures in South America stands in a wild, spectacular landscape. Gods and mythical animals are skillfully represented in styles ranging from abstract to realist. These works of art display the creativity and imagination of a northern Andean culture that flourished from the 1st to the 8th century.
