27 апреля 1988 года, Легасов был найден у себя в квартире повешенным. По одной из версий, причиной самоубийства стало давление официальных властей СССР на ход расследования Чернобыльской катастрофы и атмосфера тотальной секретности. Перед смертью он записал на диктофон рассказ о малоизвестных фактах, касающихся катастрофы. On April 27, 1988, Legasov was found hanged in his apartment. According to one version, the reason for the suicide was the pressure of the official authorities of the USSR on the investigation of the Chernobyl disaster and the atmosphere of total secrecy.
