The Art Teacher from Drohobycz Bruno Schulz (Stephen & Timothy Quay, 2022)

A short documentary about Polish writer and artist Bruno Schulz (1892–1942) made by the Brothers Quay, known for their stop-motion animation based on Schulz’s story, Streets of Crocodiles (1987). The film, made to accompany an exhibition of Schulz’s work at the Polish Institute in Vienna, recounts the main events of Schulz’s life and the circumstances of his tragic death from the bullet of a Nazi officer on 19 November, 1942. It also looks at the discovery in 2001 of the mural Schulz made for his protector Felix Landau and the subsequent removal of the restored fragments by representatives of Yad Vashem.
