Art In Miniature (1930)

“In the wax miniature are combined the virtues of two arts - relief sculpture and colour painting -“ C/U of a wax miniature which depicts a child holding a ball. By means of a dissolve another miniature is shown - an older child with a puppy on her lap. Another design is shown - a teenage girl with a larger dog. “Two hundred years ago artists excelled in making wax miniatures, but thereafter it seemed to become almost a lost art. Today it lives again - “ M/S of a young girl posing for a female artist. “The subject is roughly sketched and cut in silhouette.“ Various shots of the woman scraping the wax from a round disc. Soft wax is then stuck onto the shape of the child. “Wax tints, matching the subject, are used.“ C/Us of the wax being applied. The miniature takes shape. “Under the Artist’s skilful touch, the portrait becomes almost a living thing - “ We see the child’s hair taking form.
