Greece: Mourners bid farewell to late composer Mikis Theodorakis outside Athens home

Dozens of people paid their respects to late Greek composer Mikis Theodorakis who died at 96 on Thursday, while he was brought out of his house in a coffin ahead of a funeral procession. His daughter, Margarita Theodorakis, was among the mourners. Mikis Theodorakis was revered as a folk hero in his country, but he also achieved international recognition as a musician, writer, politician, and critical thinker. Following the news of Theodorakis’ death, radio and television stations in Greece interrupted their programmes to play the composer’s music and commemorate him. The Greek flag was lowered to half-staff at the Acropolis, and three days of national mourning have been declared.
