Ferdinand I of the county of Castile comes to power and brings his small land to the forefront of the Christian Reconquest. The fight continues with his son, Alfonso VI who takes the city of Toledo in 1085. The Taifas have no choice but to bring in the help of the powerful Almoravids of North Africa, who end up subjugating Al Andalus but also push back the Reconquista.
