For 16 years, Israel’s land, air and sea blockade of Gaza has stifled opportunities. Before the war, the strip had one of the highest literacy rates in the world -- but it also had one of the highest rates of unemployment. Today, more than four months of bombardment has destroyed every facet of Palestinian existence.
